Write your book — guided by publishing experts + supported by your peers.
At the end of this year, you could be a published author.
And we can help you get there.
We’ve entered a different era in publishing. The gatekeepers are gone. No longer are you held to a traditional publishing company’s agenda, niche, whim, or financial needs. Today you can choose to self-publish, but there are so many choices and so many ways to do that — and the differences are in the details.
Self-publishing could mean that you can try to do it all yourself − determine your audience, find the story structure, write the book, edit the book, design the book, proofread the book, design the cover, research printing options, figure out print specs, order proofs, and finally figure out how to sell it on Amazon.
Or — you can partner with a team of experts who can take care of it all for you. (Well, we won’t write the book for you… but you get the idea.)
Quality matters to you. And it matters to us.
We are redefining what it means to “self-publish.”
We crafted this program for writers who have a message to share and want to create a high-quality book.
We want your book to be original and special. We bring the care, attention and expertise of the traditional publishing industry and merge it with the freedom, flexibility and control of the current publishing landscape.
Supported by experts, every step of the way
Between the two of us, we have decades of experience working with writers and authors. We have guided over 100 people through the publishing process. We have pooled all of our experience into designing this program.
You can read our full bios at the end, but here’s a little bit about us:
Heather Doyle Fraser spent nearly 15 years as an Executive Development Editor at one of the largest higher education publishing companies in the world, Pearson Education. She uses the skills and knowledge she acquired there combined with her life coaching experience to bring you the highest quality coaching and editorial development experience possible.
Danielle Baird is a graphic designer who helps extraordinary people build their online personal brand and platform – so they can have an exponential impact on the world. She guides her clients through the jungle of personal branding, publishing, content marketing, social media, and the technology that goes along with it.
Everything you need to publish your book
We thought long and hard about what matters most and what writers need when they are creating their book. We agreed that there are three key pieces in the publishing process:
- Crafting the best manuscript you possibly can
- Wrapping the words in a beautifully designed package
- Marketing your book and bringing in business
Besides that, we agreed that while writing a book is a solitary endeavor, you don’t have to do it alone.
We’ve designed this program to be a small group experience so that you can benefit from the wisdom and support of your fellow writers.
Even though this is a group program, our work together will be customized to you, your writing strengths, and your message.
It is easy to assume that all books follow the same conventional structure: title page, copyright page, table of contents, dedication page, introduction, chapters, conclusion, acknowledgements and author bio.
However, your book might not fit neatly into that box. Sure, you could cram it into a traditional structure and make it fit, and many editors might ask you to do that, but we want your book to stand out from the crowd and mirror the uniqueness of you.
We utilize a collaborative and agile process and we will help you set milestones to keep you moving forward (see schedule below). We will meet you wherever you are, whether you’re at the beginning with your Big Idea or if you’ve already written a first draft.
The 7-month program includes:
- 6 individual Creative Development and Coaching calls with Heather
- 5 individual Design/Marketing consulting calls with Danielle
- 14 group coaching calls
- Private Facebook group for support between calls
- Individual feedback and workshopping on your manuscript
- Full copy edit
- Custom cover design
- Custom interior book design
- Full proof of the paginated book
- Step-by-step support through the self-publishing process
- Custom graphics to support you in marketing your book
- Resource library and archive of all calls and learning tools
- Help drafting the back cover copy, about the author, and sales page description for your book
If you put in the work, at the end of this year you will see your book for sale on Amazon.com.
If you enroll in this program, it is because you are ready to take action and make the dream of sharing your words with the world a reality. To support you in reaching your goal, we have designed the program in phases and created suggested milestones so that you can have your book, printed and in your hands by the end of 2016.
Each month, you will experience 2 group sessions plus 1-on-1 sessions (if you have scheduled them with Heather or Danielle), as well as on-going support within our private Facebook community.
Creative Development and Coaching with Heather
Heather’s expertise lives in seeing what’s inside and underneath your words. She is constantly looking for “the difference” in a manuscript and will work with you to co-create and develop the book format that works best for you, your writing style, your message, and your audience. She will ensure that your voice and message are consistent throughout your manuscript.
When you talk with Heather during your 6 individual sessions, you will discuss whatever you need most. Of course, first and foremost is the manuscript — its flow, your strengths as a writer and how you can incorporate more of that into your book as features or themes, the specific trajectory of your manuscript— but often there are other things that come up during the writing process.
Heather will encourage you to dig deep and bring forth your unique, authentic voice as a writer. Sometimes difficult feelings or blocks come up during the writing — it’s a natural product when you are taking on a project like this. As a coach, Heather can help you navigate these situations as they come forth. This (sometimes challenging) work is often the difference between a mediocre book that could have been written by anyone, and an excellent book that could only have been written by you.
Strategic Consulting on Design, Marketing and Branding with Danielle
Danielle will help you set a creative direction for your book that enhances your words and brings them to life. She will make sure that your book cover has great shelf appeal and that the interior design is easy (and enjoyable) to read.
- You’ll work together on collecting inspiration and creating a mood board for your book to set the tone.
- You’ll learn how to find the right images to compliment your book (and make sure that you have the legal rights to use them).
- You’ll decide on the perfect trim size for your book — a 6×6 square? A traditional 6×9 trade? 8×10? or something completely custom? It all depends on your book and your message. Danielle will guide you in selecting the perfect fit.
- She’ll also be your resource on all the technical pieces of working with a printer and getting your book up on Amazon. CMYK? RGB? Bleed? DPI? Don’t worry — she’s got you covered.
You’ll have a total of 5 individual sessions with Danielle — 3 dedicated to the design of your book + 2 general consulting sessions. In your two general consulting sessions, you will have the opportunity to get specific, individualized feedback and brainstorm ideas about your personal brand, your website, and how your book can support your business and overall marketing strategy.
These 90-minute group calls are a combination of workshop, teaching, and coaching as needed by the group. The workshop calls will rotate as participants offer material to discuss — whether manuscript, marketing or branding strategy, or just powerful ideas.
We will have 2 group sessions per month — all on Tuesdays at 1:00pm EST/ 10:00am PST.
Have you ever said something brilliant, and then promptly drew a blank on what you just said? Us too. That’s why your calls will be recorded and archived for you.
Secret Facebook Group
We will all gather online in a private Facebook Group to keep the conversation going in between calls. This is a space where we can share information, give access to more learning tools and other information that will make the process easier.
Resource library and online workspace
As much as we love the community that can be created on Facebook, we also know how frustrating it is when resources “disappear” in chat threads. Therefore, we will archive all your call recordings, transcripts, and critical learning tools in a private online workspace.
A complete print book, designed by Danielle
Danielle will work with you to develop the perfect creative direction for your book. Then, she’ll design the cover and all the interior pages, so you can hold your printed book in your hands by the end of the year.
Help with drafting marketing copy for your book
Just when you think you’re finished with your book… there’s more. We’ve found that by the time you get to this point in the process, you’re usually so tired of looking at your manuscript that you can’t even think about how to talk about it. We’ll help you draft your book’s:
- back cover copy
- about the author
- a book description for your online bookseller (i.e., Amazon)
Help with publishing your book on Amazon
We recommend publishing your book via CreateSpace (a division of Amazon.com) and will teach you how to do this when the time comes. All the royalties from your sales stay in your pocket.
Book Marketing Graphics
You’ll also receive:
- A 3D mockup of your book’s front cover
- A 3D mockup of your book’s back cover
- A Facebook banner image promoting your book
- A promotional image optimized for sharing on social media.
Program investment and start date
The Writer’s Workshop will begin in April 2016. And, we’ve been told that some of you may want to start NOW.
So, on top of the typical “early bird” rate, we’re also letting you begin immediately with bonus private sessions.
If you enroll in The Writer’s Workshop by February 29, you’ll receive:

We will be in touch soon to schedule a conversation.
What if I am working on multiple books?
While we realize that you may have more than one book idea percolating at a time, we ask that you focus on one book during the course of this program.
What if I don’t finish my book during the program?
The program schedule is designed so that you can have the bulk of your writing and revisions complete on the manuscript by July if you are dedicated to the writing and the process. And, we realize that every writer and book is unique. Sometimes things take a little longer than we expect. If this happens, we can offer two options:
- if you would still like support as you are finishing your book, you could continue working with us 1-on-1 for a monthly fee (quoted on an individual basis); or
- you could finish your book independently and submit your book for Design + Production when you are ready.
In order to support you and encourage you to do the difficult task of finishing — we require that you submit your manuscript for Design + Production by April 30, 2017.
What if I need more editorial development or coaching sessions?
If the 6 editorial development and coaching sessions are not enough for you and your book, you can schedule additional sessions with Heather. You will receive VIP access to her schedule and discounted pricing.
With 6-8 people in the group, is my book going to get the attention it needs?
During the 7-month program you will have direct 1-on-1 attention for at least 11 sessions (between both Heather and Danielle). In addition, you will receive invaluable feedback on whatever you put forth during workshop calls from not only Heather and Danielle but also the other writers in the program. If you have ever been part of a group of writers such as this, you will know the power of this community of creativity. And, if there comes a time when you feel you need additional support, we can offer you a discounted rate on our individual sessions.
Is a complete book design included in the program?
YES — this program does include final layout and pagination of your book.
Is there a payment plan?
Yes. Please contact us for details on monthly payment options.
